The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja has praised the Nigerian Army (NA) for its concerted efforts and unwavering support in the actualization of the Association’s mandate in bringing succor to the immediate barracks community and larger Nigerian society. Mrs Lagbaja gave the commendation when she led the National Executives and Members of NAOWA on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja at the Army Headquarters (AHQ) on Monday 11 September, 2023.

In her remarks, the NAOWA President congratulated the COAS on his well deserved appointment as the 23rd COAS and lauded the NA for its tremendous support to NAOWA over the years, asserting that the successes recorded by the Association were only achieved as a result of the unwavering support from the NA.

She then unveiled her vision statement for NAOWA as “Sustaining Legacies through Unwavering Commitment to Unity and Service for the betterment of humanity”, assuring that the Association would remain steadfast in its quest to improve the well-being of its members and members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), as well as positively impacting the lives of widows, orphans and the less privileged in the immediate barracks community and larger Nigerian society. Mrs Lagbaja thereafter reassured the COAS of NAOWA’s unalloyed loyalty and support, through prayers and in diligently keeping the home front safe for their spouses while they diligently serve the nation.

In his remarks, the COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja commended the leadership of Mrs Mariya Lagbaja in piloting an Association driven by compassion and commitment to the well-being of the barracks community through numerous programmes within and outside the barracks community over the years. The Army Chief thereafter pledged the NA’s continued support to NAOWA in the actualization of its mandate in the development of the barracks community and the larger Nigerian society, promising to support NAOWA in its pursuit of various projects and initiatives.

In attendance at the visit were Principal Staff Officers at the AHQ, the national executive officers and members of NAOWA, amongst others. Highlights of the colorful event were the signing of the visitors book by the NAOWA President, presentation of plaques and group photographs.
