The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya CFR has tasked the 234 Undergraduate Trainees of NAOWA Youth Development Project to be worthy ambassadors of the Army barracks.The COAS made this statement during the graduation ceremony of the 1st batch of beneficiaries of the 6 Weeks Intensive Infotech Skills and Entrepreneurship Training conducted at the NAOWA Institute of Management and Technology (NIMTA) Abuja. The graduation ceremony was held on 3 November 2022 at the NAOWA Event Centre Mambilla Barracks Abuja. The graduands comprised undergraduates of various universities in Nigeria and were trained in the Infotech Programmes that include, Introduction to Cyber Security, Python Programming, Web Design, IT Essentials and Get-Connected.

Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya CFR who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event, urged the graduands to be of exemplary conduct and to be innovative and creative with the knowledge and skills learned during the course of their training. The COAS used the occasion to appreciate the President NAOWA and other NAOWA members for the excellent initiative.He stated that, the wellbeing of barrack youth is important in the human capital development initiatives of the Nigerian Army. He assured NAOWA of his support and resources for the continuation of the programme.

Earlier In her remarks, the Mother of the Day Mrs Hadiza Bello Dambazau expressed her joy and described the graduands as lucky winners . She thus encouraged all to excel in their various fields of studying. Mrs Dambazau also appreciated the President NAOWA for her foresight and creativity.

The Chief Guest of the occasion Barrister Mrs Vickie Anwuli Irabor, in her Goodwill message applauded the capacity building initiatives of the President NAOWA and urged the graduands to positively explore the IT skills learned.

Earlier during her opening remarks, the President NAOWA Mrs Salamatu F Yahaya stated that, the Youth Development Project was conceived as part of measures to engage youth within the barracks and also to enhance their skills in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and other entrepreneurship skills that would help them in their academic and career pursuits.

Mrs Yahaya expressed her appreciation to the Special Guest of Honour, The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya for being the pillar of support for all NAOWA activities.

She also appreciated all former presidents of NAOWA and other dignitaries that graced the event, while charging the graduands to make good use of the knowledge acquired in enhancing their educational pursuits and productivity in the Society.

Highpoints of the event were presentation of the student’s courses by the Rector NIMTA, practical display by graduands, presentation of laptop computers and certificates to outstanding students and volunteer facilitators, cutting of graduation cake, presentation of awards and group photographs.
