Profile Of The Current President(NAOWA)

Mrs Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja is the 23RD President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA).

Born in the heart of Bauchi State, Mrs. Lagbaja holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and a Diploma in Mass Communication from the renowned University of Jos.

Mrs. Lagbaja’s journey within NAOWA has been marked by remarkable dedication, selflessness and diligence. As a seasoned NAOWA member, she has held several leadership positions, notable amongst which are Chairperson NAOWA 82 Division Branch and Chairperson NAOWA 1 Division Branch in Enugu and Kaduna States respectively. She also served as NAOWA Zonal Coordinator 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Lagos State, and NAOWA Zonal Coordinator 2 Brigade Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State.

Her history of steadfast leadership showcases her unwavering commitment to the Association and the communities it serves. A passionate humanitarian, Mrs Lagbaja has left an indelible mark on barrack communities over the years through her tireless efforts and initiatives. She spearheaded the modernization of ICT facilities at the NAOWA nursery and primary school in Ikeja Cantonment and oversaw the complete renovation of the school. Similarly, she transformed the NAOWA nursery and primary school in Ibagwa, Uyo, into a welcoming environment for the children and equally built a state-of-the-art ICT center at the NAOWA nursery and primary school in Enugu, a school which also went under a complete renovation. 

Her dedication to leaving a lasting legacy also led to the remodeling and construction of a previously collapsed secretariat for NAOWA in Abakpa Cantonment, Enugu State.

She conducted a skills acquisition program benefiting 120 individuals and reached out to widows in Enugu through numerous humanitarian initiatives. She also constructed a befitting secretariat for NAOWA in Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna State, and equally exhibited her commitment to uplifting the less fortunate by conducting a transformative workshop and training for 30 widows.

it is expedient to mention that Mrs Lagbaja’s humanitarian efforts have brought comfort and hope to countless families in barracks across the nation. Her leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of youth and children in Nigerian Army barracks across the country make her a beacon of hope and inspiration. Under her leadership, we anticipate further transformation and upliftment in the communities we serve.

Beyond her role in NAOWA, Mrs. Lagbaja’s personal interests reflect her dynamic personality. She is a seasoned event manager, visionary interior designer and masterful interior decorator, showcasing her multifaceted talents and abilities.

In a union that has consistently made great strides in service to our nation, Mrs. Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja is married to Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the current Chief of Army Staff, and together they are blessed with two wonderful children. On the entourage of the President are:
