NADCEL 2025: NAOWA EXTENDS HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT TO WIDOWS AND WOUNDED SOLDIERS IN KADUNA

As part of activities to commemorate the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025, the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), has carried out a humanitarian and medical outreach to support widows of fallen heroes and wounded-in-action soldiers.

Led by the Deputy NAOWA President, Mrs. Bilkisu Ibrahim, who represented the NAOWA President, Mrs Mernan Femi Oluyede, the NAOWA delegation visited Kaduna from 3 to 6 July 2025 for a four-day working tour focused on uplifting vulnerable members of the military community, amongst other commemorative activities for NADCEL 2025.

Accordingly, both outreaches took place on Friday, 4 July 2025, beginning with the widows’ support programme at Ribadu Cantonment, where over 120 widows of fallen heroes received food items and financial aid.

Delivering her remarks, the Deputy NAOWA President described the event as a reflection of the NAOWA President’s vision of “Enhancing Humanity Through a Steadfast Commitment to Unity, Service, and the Preservation of Enduring Legacies.” She thereafter assured the widows that NAOWA remains a reliable pillar of support, solidarity, and hope.

In her welcome address earlier, the Chairperson NAOWA 1 Division Chapter, Mrs. Ada Lander Saraso, thanked the NAOWA President for her steadfast focus ong family welfare within the barracks community. She equally noted that the visit had rekindled hope and reinforced the women’s connection with the wider NAOWA family, applauding the NAOWA President for her visionary leadership of the Association.

Later that same day, the entourage proceeded to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna (44 NARHK), where a medical outreach was held for over 300 beneficiaries. These included wounded-in-action personnel, expectant mothers, and nursing women. Care packs and hygiene items were distributed, while 200 mosquito nets were donated to the hospital to support infection control and maternal health services.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy NAOWA President encouraged the beneficiaries to remain hopeful and resilient. She further reiterated NAOWA’s continued investment in their well-being, adding that their health and comfort remain a priority for the Association.

Highlights of the day included the symbolic distribution of relief items to widows, donation of medical supplies to the hospital, goodwill messages, group photograph session with beneficiaries and a special dinner in honour of the NAOWA President.

The outreach formed part of NAOWA’s broader humanitarian efforts leading up to, and during NADCEL 2025, reflecting its enduring mission of compassion, community empowerment, and nation-building through support for military families. It would be recalled that NAOWA had earlier reached out to over 1,500 soldiers’ wives and widows in a large-scale humanitarian outreach held at the Aguiyi-Ironsi Cantonment, Abuja on 28 June 2025.
