BEWARE OF FRAUDULENT INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS IMPERSONATING THE NIGERIAN ARMY OFFICERS’ WIVES ASSOCIATION (NAOWA)

1.       The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) wishes to alert the general public to the activities of fraudsters and unauthorized organizations falsely claiming affiliation or partnership with NAOWA in a bid to defraud unsuspecting individuals and corporate entities.

2.       In particular, recent reports have uncovered a coordinated fraudulent scheme perpetrated by groups operating under misleading names such as the “Armed Forces Barracks Rehabilitation Foundation (AFOBREF)” and the “Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN)”, among others. These groups falsely claim to be collaborating with NAOWA to organize fictitious events, including a fabricated “3-Day Charity Exercise/10km Trek for NAOWA,” the conferment of a “Special Award of Excellence as a Friend of NAOWA,” and a staged “Graduation Ceremony”, amongst others.

3.       Victims are lured through letters bearing forged NAOWA insignia and branding, soliciting financial payments under various pretenses. Payments are also requested to be made into suspicious accounts, including, but not limited to:

• Account Name: NAOWA Army Magazine

• Bank: Kayi Microfinance Bank

• Account Number: 4282797700

4.       These correspondences are often signed by individuals using fabricated names such as “Lieutenant Colonel G. Tanko,” “Major Gabriel Tanko,” “Captain JB Daniel,” “AB Gofai,” and “Hadiza Umar,” all of whom falsely claim to represent or act on behalf of the NAOWA President.

5.       NAOWA hereby categorically disassociates itself from these individuals, organizations, and any such claims. As a registered non-governmental and non-profit organization, duly incorporated on 23 January 2003 under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) of 1990 with Registration Number 471373, NAOWA does not conduct business through agents, intermediaries, or unauthorized third parties.

6.       For the avoidance of doubt, all official NAOWA events, campaigns, and initiatives are meticulously planned, approved, and communicated solely through the Association’s authorized channels. NAOWA does not solicit donations, advertising fees, or award-related payments through unofficial letters, unsolicited emails, or informal requests. Members of the public are therefore strongly advised to verify the authenticity of any NAOWA-related correspondence through the following official contact points:

7.       NAOWA is working in close collaboration with relevant law enforcement and cybercrime authorities to identify, investigate, and prosecute the perpetrators of this fraudulent scheme to the full extent of the law. The Association remains unwavering in its mission to promote social impact, community development, and the welfare of military and civilian families. We urge the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving NAOWA’s name to the contact points listed above.

8.       We appreciate the continued trust of the public and reaffirm our steadfast commitment to transparency, service, and integrity. Once again, remember, if in doubt, reach out — do not fall victim to impersonators.
